The CREATE INDEX problem

OPN DEV NewsOriginally written by hombergs , translated by xtreme

Who among the Betatesters has encountered problems with CREATE INDEX on his webspace?
I believe, I’ve come up with a solution here.

If you are creating an index and receive the following error (access denied for user: 'XXX@YYY' to database 'ZZZ'), please go to your PHPMyAdmin if you can access that one, and try this: write
ALTER TABLE prefix_users ADD INDEX idxusersxx(uname)
and execute it. If the line is executed without mistakes, write:
ALTER TABLE prefix_users DROP INDEX idxusersxx
and execute that one, too.
In case you receive an error with the first ALTER TABLE , please mail me or send me a PM.
Notice that prefix_ has to be replaced with the prefix for the table you specified.

Changes in the contact us-form

OPN DEV NewsOriginally written by hombergs, translated by xtreme

In build 100 the module for your contact-form will be very much changed.
Now you can make the fields for URL, ICQ, firm, and location visible or invisible.
The module will contain several more features. You can for example set address and telephone number visible (important for companies or clubs).

Here, you are free to specify who is going to receive the contact-email
(i.e. service-, complaints-, or support-department etc.). In a combobox
those departments can be displayed for you to choose from. Formerly, your
mails could only be sent to one single address - and the webmaster had to
distribute them to the respective recipients. Especially for companies
with various support departments those facilities can be very helpful.

For an example check http://www.nukestyles.com/modules.php?name=Contact
Here address and telephone number are placed in a list.
Important: the older contact form module has to be deinstalled before you update the system to build 100, after the update you have to reinstall it.

Preliminary info regarding the OpenPHPnuke Version Control System (VCS)

OPN DEV News

This is not the famous CVS (Concurrent Versions System), no typo! Actually it is not definite, yet, since the feature has not been implemented entirely, anyhow – some functions are already available.
OPN Betatesters are already familiar with it, but for those of you who have been using Nuke it might be a feature you have been longing to get: An update-system which is completely integrated into the websurface of OpenPHPNuke. With a few clicks you can check whether any updates are available and download them immediately. So, as an OPN webmaster you no longer have to rummage around the chaotic tangle of previous versions and updates, at all. With this feature you will be focussing on administering your page more purposefully – also with regard to latest developments and updates.

Until now we could only provide you with all-round-updates for OPN, in the near future you will be able to update just a single module, too. The mechanism will be as follows:
If someone comes up with a new module for OPN, she/he can sign it up at the central library and will receive an individual number for the project. Then the developer can register her/his version of the module.
Using the webinterface, an OPN webmaster can check which version of the module is currently active on her/his system and which updates are available from the central library. If an update is available, you can start downloading it with a click.

You are using build 99 and want to try this? For the update go to Admin --> Modulinfos --> Click system/FAQ. For the module FAQ you should find a version 2 there.

Current limitations: the user administration is missing where users will be able to submit their modules, also changes concerning the database are not yet taken into account, just the changes in code. But soon enough this will change as well.

Thanks to those features OPN has a unique updatesystem available which is so comfortable and easy to use for webmasters.
Just like OpenPhpNuke: always a step ahead.

Thanks to xtreme for translation

Templates and individual layout,

OPN DEV News Yet another step forward with build 99.

We want to get away from average-looking boxes, blocks and standardized layouts – which make a WCMS so recognizable – and are moving fast towards a manageable individual layout for your website. Our developers keep sticking to those innovative ideas while further developing OPN.

Therefore we have tackled the center- and sidebox functions that now have a considerably extended administrative area. As a webmaster you have new options in showing content in relation to other contents on your site. Let us give you an example: The webmaster has activated the egallery and the forum (among other modules) for his “design website”. For the gallery page he wants a sidebox showing random pictures, then an additional link to the site navigation on the forum page, and in the index page he wants a centerbox showing the “latest discussions in the forum”. Now, a user might like to see the latest discussions in the forum while browsing the original gallery and/or it might be a good idea to show some adverts below the gallery content – let’s say the latest articles on the topic “my works live and multicolour”.

Using build 99 it will be no trouble for you to set all those features up on your own site; with the help of an enormously improved administrative area you can handle the content of your site with ease.

Some words about OpenPHPnuke

OPN News

OpenPHPnuke (OPN) is a so called Web Content Management System (WCMS). With OPN you can create and manage dynamic webpages on which users can directly interact with the content of the site.
In the traditional way the webbuilding process would be like this: you create and test your website on your local computer first. Afterwards you have to upload the HTML code to the webserver via FTP to make it accessible for the web community. And what is more, changing the content of the website requires that you edit the source locally before you go through the procedure of uploading the updated version again. To implement interactive features like a guestbook or a forum, you would have to go through some efforts and often scripts form external suppliers are necessary.

WCMS such as OPN do it in a different, more comfortable way.
The predesigned data-package has to be uploaded to the webserver only once during the primary installation process. After that you can manage and customize your website online with no trouble using your webbrowser. OPN offers you a rich-featured websurface for administration including ready to use functions which can be loaded on demand. There is no need for HTML programming. And without even basic programming skills you as the webmaster can focus on the content. Due to the rich set of built-in functions, you can adapt OPN to the requirements of your respective web project without much effort - no matter whether you intend to run a small personal website or a big webportal for an extended community.

OPN and the small personal webpage
The uncomplicated and powerful concept of modularisation aids you in adapting OPN to the requirements of a smaller website. A strict separation of layout (graphical design) and content allows many experiments in designing your site individually. Guest book, forum or photo gallery as well as many more features are included as ready to use functions in OPN; you won’t have to write any HTML code.

OPN and communities
In clubs, associations, and wherever groups of people are virtually interacting with each other, OPN will provide be a comfortable platform for communication and cooperation. The implemented forum and convenient personal messaging system with built-in data encryption supports professional ways of communication in the community. A sophisticated user management along with scalable authorisations enables you to integrate co-workers into the workflow of the site with only a few mouseclicks.

OPN and big projects
OPN is coded nearly from scratch and incorporates various new concepts in the content management area.
OPN is opensource under GPL.
OPN may be used commercially.
OPN is based on the sense of innovation and creativity of a highly motivated developer team and is embedded in a strong, continuously extending community.
OPN is made for the future of the world wide web.
OPN defines the new standard in WCMS regarding functionality, usability, and performance.
